Broadcast Club

The broadcast club is for any second grade student who is interested in reporting, filming, interviewing, taking pictures and other aspects of putting together a morning news show. We will have five crews. Each crew will observe for one day and then work on reports to broadcast and film for about six weeks. All interested students will be able to participate. It is important that the student is able to get to school by 7:55 a.m. for the weeks of his/her crew dates.

Grade: 2nd Grade

Friendly Faces Club

Friendly Faces Club, where play meets purpose! In our club, we believe that the best way to build strong relationships, learn to navigate conflicts, and grow essential social-emotional skills is through play. Through engaging activities, games, and hands-on experiences, our members will have the opportunity to practice communication, empathy, problem-solving, and cooperation in a fun and supportive environment. Whether you're working together to solve a challenge or simply getting to know each other, Friendly Faces Club is all about building deeper connections, understanding emotions, and fostering a sense of community. Join us as we explore the power of play to develop skills that will last a lifetime!

The Kind Kids Club is for any first and second graders that love to promote kindness. During each 3 week session we will play games, read stories, and make projects that will promote kindness throughout our school and community.

Shabonee

3rd Grade STEM Club

Description: Come learn how to drive Sphero robots through obstacle courses you create working in small teams. In this club you will learn the basics of driving the Sphero. You will also learn basic engineering skills to help you design and build obstacle courses to navigate your Sphero through. This club is open to 3rd graders. We will meet for five weeks on Tuesday mornings before school.

Grade levels: 3rd grade

Duration per session: 5 weeks

Meeting dates/times: Tuesdays at 8:00 a.m. - 8:40 a.m.

4th & 5th Grade STEM Club

Description: Come explore how to drive and code Sphero robots. In this club, you will learn the basics of driving the Sphero. You will learn how to code the robot to make sounds, change light colors and drive. Each week, there will be different activities to play and explore with the Sphero. This club is open to 4th and 5th graders. We will meet for five weeks on Monday mornings before school.

Broadcast Club

Description: 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in Shabonee's Broadcast Club. As a member, students can participate in all of the different roles of the production process. They will plan, report, film, anchor, direct, and produce news broadcasts for the Shabonee student body.

Chess Club

Description: Chess Club is for any student interested in learning, improving, or just playing the game of chess. Our casual, non-competitive group stresses good sportsmanship and fair play. We meet during lunch and recess on Tuesdays.

Homework Hour

Description: Students work independently and silently on homework. Assistance is available from supervising teachers daily and intergenerational volunteers on Monday.

Billiards Club

Description: Rack 'em up, pool players! During Wood Oaks Billiard Club, students will have the opportunity to play games of 3-ball, 8-ball, and 9-ball pool games with other students. Club attendees will learn the rules of the game, pool playing etiquette, proper pool cue grip, bridge techniques, as well as racking and breaking the pool balls. Students will also be encouraged to practice skills to make more accurate shots on the pool table.

Chess Club

Creative Writing

Fiber Arts Club

Description: Fiber Arts Club offers a variety of opportunities to explore fiber arts including knitting & crocheting. Students do not need to have prior knowledge and will be taught basic knitting and/or crocheting techniques. Some introductory materials will be provided, but students are encouraged to purchase their own set of materials to work with on their own.

Description: "Lego of your phone and pick up some bricks!" Wood Oaks Lego Club is a new club for the 25-26 school year. Students may bring their own Legos or use those provided to build, invent, and create unique structures, or work to meet the Lego challenge provided. *Please note: Due to the lack of storage space, all Lego structures will be taken apart and Legos returned to owners at the end of every club.
