Supervision will be provided at each school by our professional staff. We are asking that students in grades kindergarten through five and their parents use the gymnasium at Shabonee. All students in K-5 must be accompanied by an adult. Please note the guidelines under Section IV. Wood Oaks students in grades six through eight will use the large Wood Oaks gymnasium located on the west side of the building. High school students and adults will be assigned to the small gymnasium located on the north side of the building. Failure to pick up your child on time will result in loss of gym privileges. We have found this program to be very successful, and we hope that you and your children will participate.
Northbrook School District 27 recognizes that the use of certain school facilities during non-school hours by residents of the community should be given careful consideration, since these buildings can house a variety of recreational activities for the school district's residents. The gymnasiums at both Shabonee and Wood Oaks Schools provide an opportunity for boys and girls to participate in supervised activities with their parents and serve as centers for activities that are located closer to the residents than many of the recreational facilities within the Village of Northbrook.
Facilities to be Used
Shabonee and Wood Oaks Schools will be the educational facilities that will be utilized in the school district for recreational purposes during non-school hours. The only areas of the schools that will be opened for recreational activities will be the gymnasiums.
Time and Date Schools to be Open
Both schools will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as stated in the 2017-18 Open Gym schedule for indoor basketball. Any other time that these areas of the schools are required for recreational purposes during non-school hours must have the written authorization from the superintendent of schools or his designee.
Staff members of School District 27 will be designated as the authorized supervisors for all activities that take place each Saturday while the schools are being used for recreational purposes.
Residents May Participate in Program
All students in K-5 must be accompanied by an adult. All adults, children who are accompanied by an adult, and students who are not accompanied by an adult will be required to write their names and addresses on the sign-in roster on any Saturday in which they use the gymnasiums at Shabonee and Wood Oaks Schools.
Students in grades kindergarten through five and their parents will use the Gymnasium at Shabonee.
