New Principal Named for Hickory Point
The Northbrook District 27 Board of Education on Thursday appointed Mrs. Maureen A. Deely as the new principal for Hickory Point School.
Mrs. Deely currently serves as Principal of Wayne Thomas Elementary School in Highland Park, a position she has held for 11 years. Mrs. Deely brings to Hickory Point years of experience as an educator in the North Shore.
Prior to her tenure as principal, Mrs. Deely was an assistant principal, special education teacher and general education teacher. She has been involved with teaching young children for 26 years!
Mrs. Deely said she is thrilled to be joining the staff at Hickory Point School.
“Hickory Point exemplifies all of the components of a successful and caring learning environment,” Mrs. Deely said. “I am excited to partner and support the staff to ensure that each child learns and grows to his/her potential.”
Mrs. Deely went on to explain why she enjoys working with our youngest students.
“Childhood is such a magical time of rapid growth and development,” she said. “Young learners are curious, motivated, and engaged. The early grades provide the building blocks to help students take their first steps toward establishing the social, emotional and academic competencies to be successful learners. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that I have made a difference in helping children succeed.”
Superintendent David J. Kroeze said Mrs. Deely will be a great addition to the District’s leadership team and the Hickory Point community.
“We are fortunate to have a leader joining our team with a high level of skills and expertise in early elementary education,” Dr. Kroeze said. Mrs. Deely has a proven track record of success in meeting the needs of children, parents and staff. We welcome Mrs. Deely to District 27.”
Mrs. Deely’s hiring came after an intensive interview process that included a day-long visit to Hickory Point where she fielded questions by teams of teachers and staff, administrators, and parents.
“Developing and maintaining strong relationships with students, staff and parents is a high priority for me,” Mrs. Deely added. “By working together, we will commit to excellence and continuous improvement. I’m so fortunate to be selected to serve Hickory Point School.”
Mrs. Deely replaces Ms. Sheila Streets, who announced earlier this year she was stepping down as principal at the end of the current school year. Mrs. Deely begins her work in the District on July 1, 2018.
