Parent Message - July 31, 2020

Dear District 27 Parents,

As we continue our planning for the opening of school, I am providing additional information.

A/B Schedules
On August 5th you will receive an email with your child’s schedule of Group A or B. We will also send you a calendar for the year showing which Fridays Groups A and B attend. Please note that since we start on Thursday, Group B will attend school on August 20th and Group A will attend on Friday.

Checking Your Internet Speed
Last week we shared information on checking your internet speed but wanted to be more specific as we have updated our recommendations. As you prepare for the reopening of school, we are providing you some information regarding your internet bandwidth. The District recommends having 5.0 mbps of upload bandwidth and 5.0 mbps of download bandwidth available per student in your household, plus any other remote worker bandwidth needs you may have to accommodate in the home.

Xfinity Users

  • If you have any of the Xfinity Performance plans then that should be sufficient for one remote learner at a time.
  • If you have the Xfinity Blast! plan that would be sufficient for two remote learners.
  • Xfinity Extreme or Extreme Pro would be sufficient for three or more remote learners at a time.

AT&T Users

  • If you have AT&T Internet 1000 that would be sufficient for four remote learners.

If you are unsure of what internet plan you have, please check your monthly bill or contact your internet service provider. If you are still unclear or have further questions, please submit a technology support request and someone from the district will follow up.

Safety Procedures
We are continuing to develop our safety procedures and expect them to be finished by the middle of next week. We will post those procedures up on the 2020-2021 School Year tab on the website.

Please review the attached information about fitting your child for a mask/face covering. It is important to have a mask of proper quality and fit. Please have your child practice wearing a mask well in advance of the start of the school year.

We continue to encourage everyone to please take all the precautions you can in your personal lives to help keep our Northbrook community safe as we move into the fall. If we all do our part, these steps will help keep our schools open for in-person instruction. Thank you so much.

Quarantining
If you travel to a location with a surge of COVID-19 cases, guidance from the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) recommends self-quarantine for 14 days after visiting - for more than 24 hours - a state with a high incidence of COVID infection. We are asking all parents to abide by this guidance. Therefore, if you have traveled or plan to travel to one or more of these locations, please note that 14 days prior to our first day of student attendance is August 5. Here is the link to the high incidence list of states. It is updated every Tuesday. CCDPH Travel Guidance.

We are exercising an abundance of caution for all students and staff of District 27. Thank you for your understanding.

FAQ
We continue to update our FAQ section of the website as we are able to provide definitive answers to the questions that you have submitted. We ask that you please review the responses that have been posted thus far, and continue to check the site regularly for updates. If you have a question, that has not already been answered and it would help others to better understand the start of the school year, we ask that you submit your question via the Parent Question Form rather than email the principal directly. In that way, our principals can stay focused on the many tasks that need to be completed in preparation for the opening of school.

Please continue to refer to the 2020-2021 School Year tab on the District website for new and evolving information. Thank you, again, for your support during this unprecedented time.

Respectfully,

David J. Kroeze, PhD
