Northbrook School District 27

Superintendent Weekly Message: June 26, 2020

Parent Message - June 26, 2020

Dear District 27 Parents,

I hope you are well and safe and that your children are enjoying the summer!

Advisory Committee
We continue to work on the planning for the fall reopening of school. As I mentioned in the Parent Q&A Sessions on June 2-4, 2020, we have developed an Advisory Committee consisting of parents, two Board Members, teachers, and administrators. We held our first meeting this past Wednesday and received highly beneficial input on the priorities we should set for the development of our school reopening plan. We know that whatever plan we implement, it will not be the same as if we were in the pre-pandemic environment. Nevertheless, we will implement a plan that provides a quality education to all of our students.
ISBE/IDPH Transition Joint Guidance
This week the Illinois State Board of Education released a document to provide guidance to plan for the 2020-21 school year. It addresses critical questions all of us share about what the upcoming school year will look like in terms of in-person learning, scheduling, transportation, wearing masks, social distancing and other measures intended to keep everyone safe and healthy, while also re-engaging students in the learning process. Right now, we are seeking to understand all the details and get clarification on specific items that seem contradictory or unclear.
We are keenly aware of the urgent need to communicate to our families about what to expect next school year. We will continue to share further information with you as we determine the plan details. We appreciate your patience throughout this process. You can expect another communication from us within the next two weeks.
Student Attendance Survey
If you haven’t had the opportunity to complete the Preliminary Anticipated Student Attendance Survey, we would appreciate your help. The purpose of the survey is to have preliminary student attendance information as we plan for the reopening of schools in Phase 4 of the Governor’s Restore Illinois Plan. We need your assistance and are asking that every family complete the survey for all your children who will be attending District 27 next school year.
Thank you, again, for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as our entire District navigates a situation together that none of us could have imagined. Have a good weekend.
