Dear District 27 Community,
We stand beside our District families with the heaviest of hearts as this horrifying situation continues to develop after the Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel. Our top priority is always ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff while also maintaining a sense of normalcy in our learning environment. We are sharing this information only to inform, not alarm.
Social Media Usage
There have been reports of images depicting graphic violence in Israel and Gaza being shared on social media. We strongly recommend that parents, guardians, and caregivers restrict or closely monitor children's social media usage.
Safety Update from Northbrook Police
As worldwide threats of violence have been circulating, the Northbrook Police Department has stated that there is no local threat. Residents who notice suspicious behavior should always “See Something, Say Something” and contact the police. District 27 will continue to follow our safety and security protocols in and around our buildings. We appreciate the police’s partnership, presence, and ongoing work to care for our community.
Resources for Families
In addition to the resources shared in our District message yesterday, the San Diego County Office of Education has collected several resources that you may find valuable in talking to and supporting your children.
Our school social workers and psychologists are readily available for any students who may be struggling. If you are concerned about your child in any way, please contact your child’s teacher or school principal directly.
We will continue to share information as it becomes available during this difficult time.
John Deiter, Ph.D.
