Dear District 27 Community,
Last evening, our district was made aware of an incident involving a Springman Middle School student who was involved in an attempted kidnapping on the way home from school. The student was able to get away and is safe. The Glenview Police Department issued the following statement:
Glenview Police Officers responded to the area of Milwaukee Avenue and Kennicott Lane on a report of an attempted kidnapping. The preliminary investigation revealed a female student got off a school bus when an unknown male, described as possibly White or Hispanic, grabbed her and they fell to the ground. The female struck the male, and he ran away from the scene. The male suspect was last seen entering an SUV-style vehicle and fleeing south on Milwaukee Avenue.
Safety is always our top priority. We have been in communication with North Shore Transit, our transportation company, to confirm that our bus drivers will be maintaining diligent awareness at each bus stop. In addition, the Northbrook Police Department has confirmed that there will be an increased police presence during dismissal times at our three schools and throughout local neighborhoods. We are grateful for this support.
Thank you for your partnership in helping our students maintain awareness of their surroundings when traveling to/from school.
Sincerely,
John Deiter, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
