We have received several questions regarding quarantine requirements for individuals that test positive or that have been in close contact with a positive case. In an effort to clarify the current COVID guidelines for our schools, we are sharing the following information:
Anyone Testing Positive (regardless of vaccination status):
Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 should quarantine for 10 days. Day 0 is the day of symptom onset or positive test (if asymptomatic).
Anyone Experiencing Symptoms (regardless of vaccination status):
Stay home, contact the school nurse, and get tested immediately (close contacts need to use a lab-based PCR test). Return to school if COVID test is negative, 24 hours have passed without fever, and symptoms have improved.
Unvaccinated Person in Close Contact:
Any unvaccinated individual who has been in close contact (within 6 feet for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with a positive COVID case needs to quarantine for a full 7 days and get tested 5-7 days after exposure with a lab-based PCR test. Home tests and rapid tests will not be accepted per IDPH guidelines.
Vaccinated Person in Close Contact:
People who are fully vaccinated do not need to quarantine after close contact (within 6 feet for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with a positive case, unless they develop symptoms themselves. A lab-based PCR test should be taken 5-7 days after exposure. Home tests and rapid tests will not be accepted per IDPH guidelines.
Please submit all test results to the school nurse –

As we communicated on Thursday, Dec. 30, we are aware of the updated CDC guidance regarding quarantine; however, we are still waiting for school-specific guidance to be released from the Illinois Department of Public Health and State Board of Education. We should receive further guidance this coming week and will be sure to provide you with an update.
We look forward to our return to school tomorrow with our continued COVID mitigation procedures in place to ensure a safe environment for our students and staff.
