Parent Message - August 12, 2020

Dear District 27 Parents,

We wanted to inform you that we will make a slight adjustment in the opening day. The first day of school will now be Monday, August 24th. This is just two days later than originally planned.

I want to explain our reasoning for this change. As we continue to prepare for the start of school, we are experiencing a few delays with receiving confirmation from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) on our safety protocols. In addition, some of our equipment and supplies that we need to start the school year are delayed by a few days. These delays have had a domino effect on our training opportunities for our staff. It is very important that our staff is well-trained on all of our safety procedures and protocols.

The State of Illinois has provided each district with some Remote Learning Planning Days that are specifically designed for the training that we need. These days can be used at any time during the year, and they do not add any days to the students’ instructional year.  We have determined that we need to use two of these days on August 20th and 21st. The school year is planned to end on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

We ask for your understanding as we seek to have our procedures in place to keep our students and staff safe while at school. We have attached the modified calendar, and you will see that Group A will begin on Monday, August 24th and Group B will begin on Tuesday, August 25th. The in-person calendar days for Groups A and B remain equal at 86 days each. Students who are fully remote will have their training sessions on Monday and Tuesday as well.

We fully recognize that this change may be difficult for some parents, and we apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding.
