FAQs

Are face masks required in school?

No, face masks are optional in most situations in a school setting. Face masks will be recommended if the region's transmission level is designated as high. Situations that require masking include visiting the school health office or on a case-by-case basis to ensure ADA compliance with certain students and staff (e.g. a documented medical need may require staff within close proximity to wear a mask). Masks may be temporarily required as special circumstances necessitate, such as a classroom outbreak.

Athletes will follow the home school's masking policies and follow IESA requirements.

Anyone who wishes to continue wearing a mask in school is free to do so, and we will respect and support each family’s decision.

Are face masks required on buses?

What are the cleaning/sanitization protocols?

Cleaning and sanitation protocols include classrooms, restrooms, high-touch surfaces throughout the building, lunchrooms, and nightly cleaning. Hospital-grade/EPA- registered disinfectant cleaning products will continue to be used. Technology equipment will be cleaned and sanitized using specialized cleaners. Additional staffing will remain in place for cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces throughout the school year. We continue to monitor ventilation systems, including filter changes and allowance for increased outside airflow.

Will the school be conducting COVID-19 testing?

Will the District be requiring COVID-19 vaccination for students?

Should I submit my child's vaccine card?

Yes, submitting a copy of your student’s COVID-19 vaccine record allows the District to assist the Cook County Department of Public Health in identifying which close contacts require isolation. For example, in a close-contact scenario, vaccinated close contacts are not required to isolate so long as they remain asymptomatic. Unvaccinated close contacts, however, are required to isolate.

What actions should be taken by students/staff sent home with COVID-like symptoms?

The District follows the IDPH Decision Tree for Symptomatic Individuals.

Anyone who tests positive for COVID or presents COVID-like symptoms but does not get tested, must isolate for at least 5 day calendar days from onset of symptoms. They can return after 5 days if they have been fever-free and without diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours, and symptoms are improving. They must mask for an additional 5 days after returning. If unable to mask, they must isolate for 10 days total.

Anyone who tests negative but displays COVID-like symptoms should isolate until symptoms have improved, including being fever-free and without diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours.

Isolate for a minimum of 5 calendar days following a positive test or symptom onset, be fever-free without fever-reducing medications for 24 hours with symptoms improving, and continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others for 5 additional calendar days; OR
If unable to mask, isolate for at least 10 calendar days following a positive test or symptom onset, be fever-free without fever-reducing medications for 24 hours, and see improving symptoms.
