The Wood Oaks Junior High School
eighth graders had an outstanding graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 5.
It was held at Glenbrook North High School. The ceremony featured addresses
by Dr. Michael Ginsburg, Board of Education President, Dr. David Kroeze,
Superintendent of District 27, and Mr. Marc Schaffer, Wood Oaks Principal.
The student speakers were: Rachel Boroditsky, Magdalena Jurczuk, Vicky
Stavropoulos, Scott Berman, and Ilana Solomon. The Wood Oaks 8th grade
chorus also performed the song, “Finale B-No Day But Today” from the musical

of Education and Administration wishes all of these students much success as
they move onto high school.
Wood Oaks held its End of the Year Awards Assembly the last week of
school. Many special student awards were presented: Principals Scholarship
Award- Rachel Boroditsky and Stella Tu; American Legion Award- Stella Tu and
Brandon Nadig, Honorable Mention- Ilana Solomon and Scott Lamm; Daughters of
the American Revolution- Lauren Tzirides and Erik Slavin; Carl Bevers Award-
Audrey Williamson and Scott Berman; Rotary Service Award- Jenna Buchbinder;
Student Council Leadership Award-Julia Ring. At this assembly, students also
viewed a slideshow of photos and music from the entire school year.
The District 27 Summer Library Program is underway. The program will
continue from 7 to 8 p.m. each Wednesday night at Hickory Point School (500
Laburnum Drive) through July 30 this summer. This year’s theme is, “Get
Fired Up About Reading.” This weekly event is open to all children who live
in the District 27 boundaries.
